Timothy Wingert, OD, FAAO

Dr. Timothy A. Wingert is Dean and Professor at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry (UIWRSO). Prior to his promotion to Dean, Dr. Wingert served the UIWRSO community as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

Before coming to UIWRSO, he was a Professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, College of Optometry and is a Past President of the Missouri Optometric Association.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, he is a Diplomate in the Section on Public Health and Environmental Vision where he also serves as a Past Chair. He is a Founder Member of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics and was named a J. William Fulbright Scholar in 2005 through the program sponsored by the United States Department of State. This appointment resulted in his teaching a semester in Poznan and creating professional ties to the optometric community in Poland. In 2013 he was named to the Fulbright Specialist Panel.

He was appointed by the governor to serve on the Missouri Children’s Vision Commission for a four-year term beginning in 2008 and was the chair of the Commission in 2010. Much of his professional work has centered on access to care issues and providing optometric care to populations who need it. He is a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry and was named Missouri Optometrist of the year in 2007.
