Andrés Pagán, OD, MPH

Dr. Andrés Pagán completed a Bachelor Degree in Science (BS) from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico (IAUPR) in 1981. In 1987, attained his Doctor of Optometry degree from the IAUPR School of Optometry. In 1995 he earned a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the Medical Center Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, being the first optometrist in Puerto Rico with a Master Degree in Public Health. During his professional career at the IAUPR School of Optometry, Dr. Pagán has served in several positions such as Clinical Instructor, Director of Contact Lens Clinic, Director of Patient Care Department, Dean for Academic Affairs. In 2008, he became Dean of the IAUPR School of Optometry and as part of his duties, is a member of the IAUPR System Management Council.

Dr. Pagán has presented several proposals to the Legislature of Puerto Rico aiming to authorize the local optometrists to prescribe ophthalmic medications as part of their professional practice. He has given numerous conferences in congresses and continuous education courses in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Chile, Venezuela, Spain, Colombia, Argentina and England,  among others.

Dean Pagán is currently Secretary-Treassure of the Asociación Latinoamericana de Optometría y Óptica (ALDOO). He also is an active members of several community-based associations such as: San Juan Rotary Club, San Juan-Bayamón Exchange Club and Save a Gato, among others. Doctor Pagán has published articles in local newspapers and journals, including the Journal of the American Optometric Association.
