Michael Bacigalupi Bio
Dr. Michael Bacigalupi is the dean at the Kentucky College of Optometry at the University of Pikeville. Prior to his appointment as dean, he was the assistant dean for student affairs and admissions at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the chair of ASCO’s Student Affairs Committee.
Dr. Bacigalupi was in private optometric practice for 12 years. He owned and operated a solo-practice in rural west Texas serving as the county’s only eye care provider. His private practice focused primarily on ocular disease and glaucoma management. He served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Optometric Association (TOA) and was honored as the Texas Young Optometrist of the Year in 2003. Dr. Bacigalupi served as the first chairman of the TOA Pre-Optometry Task Force. Dr. Bacigalupi is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and was a clinical examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. He was a founding member of the ASCO-AOA Joint Project Team on Further Developing a Robust, Diverse, and Highly Qualified Applicant Pool. He has twice been honored by Lions Club International with the International Service Award for his many eye care mission trips into Central and South America.
Dr. Bacigalupi has taught extensively in optometric practice management and optometric theory & methods. Dr. Bacigalupi is a frequent author and lecturer in the areas of practice management, student affairs and admissions.
